ABOUT ME
PERSONAL DETAILS
I was born in Ipswich on 18th September 1970. I began attending piano lessons at the age of 6 and while attending Castle Hill Primary School took up the violin. However, it was a flute I really wanted to play and the opportunity to learn the flute came in 1983 while I was at Westbourne High School. I was given a school flute to play with to ‘get it out of system’. In 1985, I moved to Northgate High School to begin my ‘O’ Level courses and eventually gave up the violin in favour of the flute. I took my ‘O’ levels in 1987, grade 8 Piano with Merit in 1988 and my ‘A’ levels in 1989. After leaving Northgate in 1989, I went to study Music at Colchester Institute School of Music and gained a B.A.(Hons) degree in 1992. During this time, I passed grade 8 Flute with Distinction. I then went to the University of East Anglia to do a PGCE in Music.
AFTER UNIVERSITY
I left UEA in 1993 and began to build up my private teaching practice. I started with only 2 pupils on a Saturday morning but now have nearly 60 pupils. In 1996 I gained an LTCL diploma in piano teaching, in 1997 an ALCM diploma in saxophone performance and in 1998 another ALCM diploma only this time in flute Performance. I am hoping to find time to do a clarinet one eventually. I also have grade 2 on the harp but have no plans to teach it. In 2003 I was appointed assistant moderator for Edexcel to moderate the composition element of their GCSE Music course.
On top of all my musical activities I have now developed my hobby of card making into a commercial concern selling card making supplies to other card makers!
